Since we have already worked on a vacuum cleaner robot project, we decided to explore a floor-cleaning robot project.

In this blog post, we will learn how to make a floor-cleaning machine using Havi Elements. This is a simple project that demonstrates the basic mechanism of floor-cleaning robots. We have not used any programming or sensors in this model. Once started, the floor-cleaning robot moves in a single direction and begins cleaning. Later, you can enhance it by adding programming to navigate around obstacles or develop a remote-controlled automatic mopping robot.

How to make a floor cleaner robot for school project

Step 1
Let’s first make a robot car that moves in a forward direction. You can check how to make a robot car video as given below.

Step 2
Now, let’s design the mop part for our floor cleaner project. Take a tiny plastic bottle and at the center, make a hole using a compass.

Step 3
Stick four pieces of the double-sided tape around the hole of the bottle. Check the image for reference. Stick the sponge with it. This way, the sponge is sticked with the bottle.

Step 4
Fill the half of the bottle with water.

Step 5
Stick the double-sided tape on one corner of an ice-cream stick. Do this for two more ice-cream sticks. Stick two of them at the sides of the car.

Step 6
Now, stick the double-sided tape at the top and bottom of the bottle and stick the bottle carefully between two ice-cream sticks.

Step 7
For better balancing, stick the third ice-cream stick between the robot car structure and the bottle.

Step 8
Your floor cleaning machine is ready. Turn the power ON and see what happens.

How does it work?

The basic mechanism is similar to that of a DIY simple robot or robot car. As the robot moves, water drips slightly from the bottle onto the sponge, making it wet and allowing it to clean the surface.

Eventually, you will need to refill the bottle with water, but the robot cleans the floor without any human intervention.

You can also enhance it by adding an IR sensor to create a smart floor-cleaning robot.
